This page is dedicated to the explanation of some of the songs that we're currently working on and posting as well as songs that are finished but haven't had the esteemed liberty of appearing on a Stud Fieldmouse release due to the mere fact that they probably weren't written yet.  So endulge and enjoy!

Shut Down-This song was written on March 24, 2003, and it was layed down into acoustic demo format on March 26, 2003.  I wrote this song after my computer froze on me.  I was really frustrated.  I used shut down as a metaphor for not being able to get through to someone upon speaking to them, after endless attempts.  So yeah I guess that's the direction my song writing has taken lately.

You shut me down again
You closed me out, and you wouldn't let me in
You shut me down again
You severed ties, and said it was the end

How was I to know, the way it all would go?
How was I to see, that you would wander free, without me?

No Reply- This song was written around 10:30 am on March 22, 2003, and recorded moments later in demo format.  I wrote the song because I was frantic in trying to get a hold of our drummer Nate Joe, but I was unsuccessful.  Now the song isn't about Nate Joe, just the inspiration for the song stems from him not being near his phone.   It eventually turns into a relationship based song, I don't know why, or even how, but that's what happens.

What were you doing all alone?
Why didn't you pick up your phone?
I called you a hundred times, still I got no reply
What were you doing all alone?

Is there something I should know about you?
What does it matter to me now that we're through?
I caught you once before in lie, after lie
Then I asked you and you gave me no reply

How does it feel to be all alone?
No one is calling on the phone
You called me a hundred times
Still you get no reply
How does it feel to be all alone?

Standing Still-This song was written amidst some boredom, and just the need to write a song.  I wrote it a few days before Valentine's Day, and I was really thinking about a girl that I'd had come to know in recent weeks.  Although the song isn't directed toward one certain person, I did have her in mind upon writing the song.  It has not yet been recorded into demo format, which sucks, but soon enough it'll be there.

I'll pick you up at a quarter to 8
I promise you I won't be late
I can't believe this is a date
I hope everything turns out great

I've been waiting for this
For a long, long time
Waiting for the chance
That I could make you mine

7:45 I'm right on time
Ready to give you
The night of your life
If you asked me to kiss you
I wouldn't think twice
But talking to you
Is just as nice

And I've been waiting for this
For a long, long time
Waiting for the chance
That I could make you mine

Time is standing still
When I'm with you
I can't get my fill
Of being with you

You get in the car
And it's time to go
I don't want to see
The picture show
I just want to hang out
And hold your hand
Is that too much to ask?

Knocked Down-Written and recorded in demo format on January 28, 2003.  This song deals with pretty much being put down, in a physical and mental sense.  Things have happened to me throughout my life, within the past few years that I'm not really happy with and I figured that by writing this song it would help me release some of the built up anger and hurt.  I think it accurately portrays my feelings as far as lyrically, and I'm really happy with the acoustic demo, but I cannot wait until we put it into full band format, because then it'll totally kick!

I've been knocked down
But don't count me out
I've been faced with this before
Memories of the broken hearted
Always knocking at my door

And it's easy for me to see
You're not the one
And it's easy for me to believe
It came undone

I pick myself up from the ground
After I had been knocked down
Everyone I see is just staring at me
Because I let you push me around

And it's easy for me to see
You're not the one
And it's easy for me to believe
It came undone

I've been knocked down
But I won't let it get me now
I've been pushed around
But I won't let you knock me down

The Bad Guy- This song was started on January 14, 2003 and it was finished on January 17, 2003 because a bridge was added to the song.  This song is about some drama that has been occurring in my life that I'm really not too fond of because I'm the middle guy in the situation, and somethings in the situation that were said were turned around to make them appear a different way.  This song is pretty much about one of the persons involved in the situation, but it is my take on the whole thing.

I am guilty by design
So there is no use in trying
Everything you say
Gets turned the other way
What you think is right
Makes me look like the bad guy

It doesn't have to be this way
Why do you wanna know?
It doesn't have to be this way
Why don't you let it go?

Your relationship was upended
So it was me that you befriended
Everything I say gets turned the other way
What you think is right
Makes me look like the bad guy

It doesn't have to be this way
Why do you wanna know?
It doesn't have to be this way
Why don't you let it go?

You have all the answers
But you've turned them all around
Your knowing all the answers
Has left me gagged and bound

The Perils of Being Bored and Lonely- I wrote this song the day after I wrote "Wonderful".  I was feeling really bored and lonely, so this isn't about any girl as some may think, although it does lean toward that, it really isn't about that at all.  It's just about being alone and waiting for something to do, but in order to make it not sound stupid, I decided to throw a girl in there, so to the imaginary girl that appears in the song, kudos to you!

As I lie awake at night
I'm thinkin' to myself somethin' ain't right here
I have no sense of direction
A wake up wanting something
Or possibly someone
Someone worthy of my affection
Could you be someone to lay under the sun with?
Could you be someone who just wants to hang out?

I could sit at home all day and wait for you
Cause I'm alone in here with nothing else to do
You could wander around
And play me like a fool
Cause I'm alone in here and I'm thinkin' of you

I turn on the TV
Nothing seems to intrigue me
I'm as lonely as can be
Right there in the blink of an eye
I feel so empty inside
I must wash my hands of this

Wonderful- I wrote and recorded the demo for this song on December 10, 2002.  A friend of mine had been dating this girl for two years and well she became a friend of mine as well, and she told me I should write a song about her. So I did and it just talks about how awesome of a gal she is and how she makes the boys swoon, even if she doesn't realize it, she does.  Updated 12-18-02: The girl the song is for said she listened to the song and enjoyed it very much, and seemed very happy with it, so thanks to the gal for enjoying the song, and it was my pleasure to help you feel better :)!

I know a girl
She's wonderful
She makes them swoon
And that's no joke
Her hair is shorter
And that's alright
Cause it's all over
When you look into her eyes

To throw her away
Would be a mistake
Cause she's so rad
So rad, she's great

Oh, we've come a long way
Since the stones were thrown yesterday

She used to date someone
Someone I know
But he was an idiot
And he let her go
Did I mention that she's wonderful
And she makes them swoon
And that's no joke

A Letter To Missouri-  This song was inspired by a gal named Missouri.  The inspiration came about because she enjoys the winter, but living in Florida, she doesn't get the lovely perks us northern Indiana folk get year after year.  I told her that since she loved the winter so much, I'd send her the winter air in a jar so she'd have some winter.  She said that I should put it in a song, so I did, hence the lyrics below, which are for my wife whom I'm not sure if I've met yet, but in case I have somewhere and don't know it, I think she'd be pleased!

I've never seen you
But I want to be you
Right now
And if I were with you
I'd want to kiss you
Right now

And everything you want me to do
I'd do for you
There isn't anything that I wouldn't do

If it was cold outside
I'd catch the air of winter just for you
And under the moonlight
I'd grab all of the stars and give them to you

I want to know you
So I can show you
How good it can be
And if you make it last
Will you give me a chance
Then maybe we'll see

Moments- I wrote this song from a different point of view than most of the songs that I write.  I was kind of wondering about people who are super busy with work and what not and if they had time to take in life's little moments or did they merely let them pass on by.

Did you catch the glare
On your windshield
When the sun hit it just right?
Did you close your eyes
While behind the wheel
To make sure it's alright?

And did you think about today?
Or did you let it get away?

Did you pass someone
On the road today?
Someone that you know?
Were you caught up
In the moment and neglect to say hello?

Did you think about today?
Or did you let it get away?

When you get home
From your busy day
And wind down to relax?
Do you ever stop
Just to think about
These moments as they pass?

December Whispers- This song came to me in a very strange way.  I was in my room where I do a vast majority of my writing and I was staring out my window.  It looked extremely cold outside and I thought about how December was creeping up on us and I was strumming the progression to this song and well, the words December whispers popped into my head.  I decided to make December a person in the song.  So it's story about a gentleman, who hasn't been named in the song, but he's apparently courting a gal named April, and a gal named August enters the picture and April is left stranded because the gentleman takes off with August, then come to find out he leaves a gal named Summer waiting in the wings.

December whispers "In autumn you kissed her"
And from there you disappeared
April was waiting
She was waiting for someone
But she never made that clear

And all the time you spent together
What was it for?
With all the history between you
You left her alone

You left April waiting
She was anticipating
All the fun she'd have that day
When August came to town
You were nowhere to be found
We all thought you ran away

And all the time you spent together
What was it for?
With all the history between you
You left her alone

December whispers "In winter you kissed her"
And from there you disappeared
Summer was waiting
She was waiting for someone
But she never made that clear
